A Busy Airport for Birds!

Tipperne & Værnengene

For nature lovers and bird friends the Tipperne peninsula is a true paradise. Depending on the season there are always interesting birds to watch, and the area also offers excellent opportunities to watch the birds from observation towers, trails and roads. The area is internationally known and one of Northern Europe's most important bird reserves.

You can find Tipperne on a lush marsh meadow at the bottom of the Ringkøbing Fjord. As a peninsula the region protrudes well into the fjord. Tipperne is a large flat landscape of just over 3,000 hectares. The area consists of a myriad of ponds and marshes that are intersected by ditches and trenches. Large parts of the area is covered by forest of reeds. Bjålum dune area differs from the rest of Tipperne, since it consists of dunes, heath and moorland with shrub vegetation.

As a bird area the Tipperne peninsula consists of three specified locations: Bjålum Dune, Værneengene, and Tipperne. The name "Tipperne" comes from the Danish word "tip", characterizing a marsh area with a tuft of grass.

Tipperne is only approx. 15 minutes drive from the Nordsø Camping & Badeland.

Tip: Remember, you can borrow binoculars in the reception at the campsite.
