Coastal Protection

When the autumn storms sweep any stubborn summer feeling away, it's very few of us who think of the nature outside.

In October 2009, the Tourist Association launched, in conjunction with the local dune bailiff Hanne Kvist Jensen, a new initiative: Denmark's first courses in coastal protection. During the courses you learn how to plant lyme grass and marram grass with a spade in the bare sand dune. It increases the understanding of taking care of landscape and not to trample all over the newly planted dune. But it also gives a helping hand in the laborious work to plant the dunes.

Since it is important to take care of the nature, Nordsø Camping & Badeland participates in the project. The campsite is situated in the middle of the protected dune landscapes. Campers are invited to attend the courses and to get a free night and thus help preserve the beautiful but fragile dune landscape.

You can get a free night if you show your diploma for a job well done at the campsite reception. The diploma is handed out by the coastal bailiff Hanne Kvist Jensen, also Denmark's only female dune bailiff.

"We are here on the nature's conditions," says Camilla Dvinge from the campsite situated in the first row of dunes. With our offer to the campers, we hope to contribute to both respect and enthusiasm for our spectacular scenery, she says.

The courses take place three Tuesdays in 2010: 14th, 21th, and 28th October.
